“Braces” can often be a scary word for children and parents alike. We partner with local area orthodontists to coordinate care for your child. While orthodontic treatment may not always be necessary, a growth analysis of your child’s growth and development will allow Dr Pam to recommend orthodontic treatment when it is ideal. At certain times during the periodic exam, we may request additional radiographs to confirm the direction, absence or presence of a permanent tooth
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive an initial orthodontic evaluation no later than age 7. It’s at this age that the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite.
Benefits of Early Orthodontic Evaluation
Early orthodontic evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment at Under the Sea Dentistry. There are many benefits to early orthodontic evaluation with children, including:
- Guiding the adult teeth during eruption
- Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth
- Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
- Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
- Preserving space for unerupted teeth
- Reducing the need for tooth removal
- Reducing treatment time with braces
Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later.
